Cuban migrants opt to stay
Five Cuban migrants have opted to remain in the Cayman Islands after their vessel reached East End at 8.30 pm last night, Thursday December 27, 2012.
Although the crew of the boat had initially intended only to carry out repairs, the decision was eventually taken by three passengers to remain in Grand Cayman — one of whom had been previously repatriated in April. Prior to this, two migrants got off in Cayman Brac on Wednesday, December 26, 2012.
Immigration Officers are working to process the group, and Government has notified all relevant agencies that will be assisting with the care and security of the new migrants.
The remaining 25 passengers continued on their journey. This brings the total number of migrants in Grand Cayman to 30.
