DEH continues to educate
This training is strongly recommended for all new personnel working in the cosmetology industry and anyone whose local certification (which is good for three years) has expired.
Hairdressers, barbers, tattoo and body piercing technicians, and other cosmetologists should attend one of these important workshops. Training will be held on the last Tuesday of each month, through November.
The dates are 27 September; 25 October and 29 November.
All sessions will take place from 9:00a.m. to noon at the DEH office in the Cayman Islands Environmental Centre, 580 North Sound Road. There is a $15 registration fee, which also covers the course literature.
The workshops educate operators on safe hygiene practices within the industry, including equipment sterilisation and disinfection; and preventing the transmission of communicable diseases. They also update participants on DEH guidelines for operating cosmetology establishments.
Business owners are encouraged to register their employees. For more information call DEH at 949-6696.
The DEH are also offering certification courses in basic food hygiene.
Persons working in the food industry who have not yet taken one of these training courses, or who need to update their certification (which is good for three years), should register to attend.
The course is offered on Tuesdays through December. The dates are 21st September, 5th and 19th October, 2nd and 23rd November and 7th December.
The sessions are from 9:00a.m. to 4:00p.m. at the DEH conference room in the Cayman Islands Environmental Centre, 580 North Sound Road.
A $15 registration fee, which also covers course materials, should be paid at the DEH office on any weekday.
“Operators of food businesses are reminded all personnel who handle food must be trained,” said Senior Food Safety Officer Gideon Simms. He added that training will equip participants with sufficient knowledge to prevent food-borne illness and the spread of food-borne pathogens.
