George Town Primary students who attend St George’s Anglican Church’s afterschool programme, known as PIN (Positive Intervention Now), were recently presented with their ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ book of choice by Books & Books manager Megan McCluskey.

Ms Marlene Ricketts is the coordinator of the afterschool programme, which focusses on developing young people intellectually, emotionally and spiritually, and she says the youngsters, all aged around 11, were extremely excited when they heard they would be given a copy of a book from their favourite series.

“PIN runs every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afterschool from 3pm until 6pm and we encourage reading among the many fun and educational activities that we provide for the young people,” she explained. “When the children found out that Books & Books was going to make such a generous donation they were counting down the days until they would receive their books! We are extremely grateful to Megan for helping to support our programme in such a positive way.”

Ms McCluskey is a familiar face at George Town Primary; she reads with the students once a week as part of Rotary Sunrise’s Reading Partner programmes.

“When we heard that the PIN group really enjoyed the ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ series we were more than happy to ensure that each child had a copy of the book that they most wanted to read,” Ms McCluskey stated. “Encouraging reading at a young age is such an important way to ensure a lifelong love of books and we are delighted to facilitate this with the PIN programme youngsters.”
