When the Minister for Health and Environment, Hon. Mark Scotland, quipped last Thursday (21) that the West Bay Road diversions and the Esterley Tibbetts Highway extension would be a “small term pain – long term gain”, he wasn’t kidding. Well, to the first part anyway – we have to see if the last part comes true!

Dart announced on Friday (22) that work would be continuing over the next two weeks on either side of the closed stretch of the West Bay. Work at Yacht Drive, Raleigh Quay and Governors Way is expected to be completed by 2 April. This will end the temporary Lime Tree Bay diversions.

In a notice, that included a map, Dart said, “Road works to complete the connection of Phase One of the highway extension to West Bay Road are scheduled to conclude over the next two weeks.”

Two southbound lanes are scheduled to open on Thursday March 28 ahead of the Easter weekend at Raleigh Quay. The two northbound lanes will open Easter Monday (1 April).

Paving of the Yacht Drive Connection is scheduled to be completed by Tuesday 2^nd  April.

The Governors Way Connection is also scheduled to open on Tuesday 2^nd April. This will allow traffic to flow on to the West Bay Road as far as Governor’s Way.

Government officials confirmed the public can continue to drive along the stretch of road from West Bay Road and the junction of Yacht drive and will be able to gain access to the beach this Easter.
