“ELECTION OBSERVERS” – The Cayman Islands Government Facebook’s Question Of The Day:

image001 “What’s the status of the General Election Observers issue?

OFFICIAL ANSWER:

Discussions are underway for an Election Observer Mission (EOM) to visit the Cayman Islands to observe the 22 May General Elections.

Following the Premier’s agreement to such a mission, the Governor’s Office has been in contact with the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, a body which has extensive experience of organising EOMs across the Commonwealth.

The CPA is currently putting together, for the Governor’s consideration, a draft proposal for a (non-UK led) EOM to the Cayman Islands. The proposal is likely to be forthcoming towards the end of next week.

There are 56 candidates vying for 18 seats in the forthcoming election, with a voting population of 18,492 (and a general population of less than 60,000 people).
