Faith Hospital built on Faith celebrates its 40th Anniversary
To celebrate this historic occasion, the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority (HSA) is organising a series of events throughout the year starting with a customer appreciation day on Monday 22nd April. They will also be holding a larger community celebration on Monday 1st July 2013.
The hospital holds a special place in the Cayman Brac community’s hearts – it is a place drenched in Cayman history. The land where the hospital is built was generously donated by the late Captain Charles Kirkconnell, a pioneering local icon.
The community came together and helped with the construction of the facility – a hospital built on faith. After Faith hospital was seriously damaged by Hurricane Paloma in 2008, a significant reconstruction project took place, which resulted in an improved facility being unveiled in 2010.
Ms Lizzette Yearwood, HSA Chief Executive Officer believes Faith hospital is a reminder of all things great about the Cayman Islands. “When the hospital faced hardships of Paloma, the community rallied together and helped put it back together. It really is a hospital built on Faith”, stated Ms Yearwood.
Dr. Srirangan Velusamy, Director of Sister Islands Health Services, stated “Over the 40 years, Faith Hospital’s services have continued to grow in order to better serve our residents and visitors.”
“We look forward to the upcoming months as we honour the many people who made great efforts and sacrifices over the years making Faith Hospital what it is today”, Dr. Velusamy stated.
