Historical treasure hunt in Bodden Town

First Prize awebGrand Cayman, Cayman Islands (24 April, 2013) — The first capital of the Cayman Islands, Bodden Town, saw historical treasure hunters and pirating revellers during the annual Historical Treasure Hunt sponsored by Department of Tourism in support of the Cayman National Cultural Foundation (CNCF) earlier this year.

12 teams brought 36 adults and children out on an early morning hunt for clues and historical facts about Bodden Town in a competition to win a variety of prizes.  This annual event is held in partnership with the CNCF during the organisation’s month-long celebration and festivities for Cayfest.

Leading the scavenger scurry was Team Cromwell’s Deserters who deciphered all the clues correctly and in record time.  The team consisted of Wes Heistand, David Conolly, and Stacy Mathis.

“The Historical Treasure Hunt is a fun, family event that is looked forward to by a wide cross section of the community” said Director of Tourism Shomari Scott. “The Department of Tourism is pleased to have once again had the opportunity to partner with the CNCF to host this event and we are delighted to see the increasing numbers of residents and visitors who enthusiastically participate in this learning-through-fun experience.”

For the second year, the hunt visited the Bodden Town area’s heritage sites; from Guardhouse Hill to the Webster Memorial United Church, and other unique sites in the district.  Past years saw the hunt take place in George Town.

Sponsors provided a bevy of prizes including Camana Bay gift cards, Sunshine Suites staycation, Cayman Airways tickets, and attraction passes from the Tourism Attractions Board.
