2013 General Elections conclude

GT New MLAswebVoting in the 2013 Cayman Islands General Election has concluded and final election results are now available.

The full day of polling during the national holiday (Wednesday, 22 May) concluded at 6 p.m., and was followed by a marathon counting process which ended around 6 a.m. today (Thursday, 23 May)*.

There are 18, 492 registered electors. Of these, a total of 14,758 (79.93% of those registered) cast their ballots in the six districts.

The results of the popular vote and the Cayman Islands’ 15 elected Members of the Legislative Assembly are as follows:

•          West Bay: 3,593 votes; McKeeva Bush 1,583; Tara Rivers -1,483; Bernie Bush -1,460 and Capt. Eugene Ebanks – 1,307;

•          George Town: 5,829 votes; Kurt Tibbetts – 2,470; Roy McTaggart – 2,160; Alden McLaughlin –2,145; Marco Archer –2,085; Winston Connolly – 2,039 and Joey Hew –1,940;

•          Bodden Town: 3,593 votes; Anthony Eden – 1,781; Osbourne Bodden – 1,615; Wayne Panton – 1,571 and Alva Suckoo – 1,393;

•          North Side: 465 votes; Ezzard Miller – 295;

•          East End: 554 votes; Arden McLean – 285;

•          Cayman Brac and Little Cayman: 835 votes; Moses Kirkconnell – 628 and Juliana O’Connor-Connolly – 461.

Supervisor of Elections Kearney Gomez expressed thanks to all involved in the process, including the electors, candidates, agents as well as the elections workers, support staff and the media.  The final figures for all candidates, as well as supporting documentation on the process, are posted on the elections website www.electionsoffice.ky.

* Editor’s Note: The above release was sent to us from Government Information Service. We wish to point out that whilst the “marathon counting process” may have “ended around 6 a.m. today (Thursday, 23 May)” the final tally for George Town was not given out until 8:45a.m. nearly three hours later.
