EE Radar stationThe week of Monday, 27 May 2013, GIS Spotlight revisits an important radar project, promotes youth interaction and captures children’s skating action.

Meteorological officers aim for accurate prediction when monitoring the elements, especially during inclement weather. However, consistent success depends on the quality of equipment they can access and use.

The Western Caribbean so far faced a gap in real time information. Join us at the opening of the new Doppler radar facility now sited in Cayman that puts the Western Caribbean on a vital regional radar grid. Hear from those who made this possible and learn how Cayman’s officers will use the equipment to benefit the Islands, the region and beyond.

We change gears and visit the Youth Assembly next to understand the valuable work done by high school students to help all young people and by extension the Cayman Islands. Tune in to meet how these bright individuals are helping direct government policy through their active involvement. Hear about the important topics they tackle that impact young people.

After that, join us once again to Grand Cayman’s skate park to see a joint RCIPS- Education Ministry initiative to engage youth in exciting yet wholesome afterschool activities. See how police officers are volunteering their time to benefit young lives.

Produced by GIS Marketing and Communications, GIS Spotlight is a government services and solutions programme about issues that concern and affect you. The weekly show airs Mondays on CIGTV on Cable Channel 20 after 7 pm; and on Cayman27 at 8.30 pm on Tuesdays, and 6 pm on Saturdays.

All stories seen in the week’s GIS Spotlight can also be found on the GIS Marketing and Communications website: www.gis.ky.
