Labour and youth ministries for Rivers
After much speculation and dilly-dallying Tara Rivers, the West Bay newly elected member of Cayman’s Legislative Assembly has accepted a Cabinet position in an Alden McLaughlin led Progressives’ (PPM) government.
Rivers will be the new Minister of Labour that includes the new National Workforce Development Agency. Also in her portfolio is Youth and gender Affairs.
In accepting the Cabinet position Rivers said, “I have the ability and the necessary experience to be Minister for Labour.”
She said she was encouraged to accept as the Progressives leader had told her she was under no obligation to become a member of his party and she had no intention of doing so.
I will, however,” she said, “be bound by the rules of Cabinet responsibility. It is important that the public recognizes that it may be challenging for me to operate as a lone independent minister in a PPM dominated Cabinet. As a member of Cabinet, however, I expect to be given the necessary support from the Progressives to fulfill my responsibilities.”
Alden McLaughlin will be holding a press conference at 6pm this Tuesday (28) evening. He will reveal who will be taking the rest of the portfolios and departments and who will take the seventh Cabinet seat.
