Career advancement

GIS Spotlight gradThe week of Monday, 3 June 2013, GIS Spotlight brings you another look at civil service empowerment, special art preservation and the invaluable service of special constables. Also, check out the recent videos posted on our YouTube and Facebook channels.

Self-help plays a big part in anyone’s attempts to rise up the corporate ladder. Without personal commitment to your own improvement, you cannot sustain your career growth.

Meet successful graduates of the Civil Service College. Hear the Deputy Governor’s and Chief Officer’s views on these triumphs and their hopes for more civil servants to use the opportunities readily available to them. And see what qualities can propel the employed to succeed as adult students.

Next, we revisit Cayman visionary painter Miss Lassie’s house to see how her work has been painstakingly preserved or restored as necessary under the Cayman National Cultural Foundation’s Mind’s Eye project. Hear the late painter in a rare interview explain how her work came about and see how prolific and unique her talents are.

And finally, join us to meet Special Constables. Witness the efforts of these volunteers along with the RCIPS to take a bite out of crime in the Cayman Islands. Hear what these brave individuals do after their day jobs and what motivates them to uphold the law and give freely of their time and efforts.

Produced by GIS Marketing and Communications, GIS Spotlight is a government services and solutions programme about issues that concern and affect you. The weekly show airs Mondays on CIGTV on Cable Channel 20 after 7 pm; and on Cayman27 at 8.30 pm on Tuesdays, and 6 pm on Saturdays.

All stories seen in the week’s GIS Spotlight can also be found on the GIS Marketing and Communications website: www.gis.ky.

Comments and suggestions about the programme are always welcome. Viewers can provide feedback by e-mailing [email protected].

Also check out our newest uploads to the CI Government Facebook page and our YouTube page at CIGovtInfoServices. Catch some of the MLAs swearing in action and government’s state honours for the late Speaker, Hon. Edna Moyle. In addition, view the National Museum’s Speakers’ Series featuring maritime heritage, the topical Youth Act press briefing and above all, our Proud of Them campaign interviews.
