Some 1,000 people paid their last respects to the late Speaker, Hon. Edna Moyle, OBE, JP, at the official funeral service, held at the Clifton Hunter High School auditorium in her home district of North Side this afternoon (Saturday, 1 June 2013).
Full official honours included continuous guarding of the flag-draped casket provided by uniformed officers and a guard of honour by police officers outside, as the casket was carried aloft by senior uniformed officers to the waiting hearse.
During the funeral service led by Rev. Rohan Forrester, the Premier, the Hon. Alden McLaughlin MBE, JP provided a tribute from the Cayman Islands Government, lauding Mrs. Moyle’s contributions and shared some of his fond memories about the late Speaker.
Minister of Health, Works, Agriculture and Community Affairs, the Hon. Kurt Tibbetts, OBE, JP, spoke about her life being devoted to public service and her family. He also offered a musical tribute.
North Side MLA, Mr. Ezzard Miller, JP, offered scripture reading. Family member Master Liam Chisholm also offered a reading from scripture and Miss Keyreaye Bodden rendered Psalm 23 as a special song. Ms. Mary Lou Miller presented a message of thanks on behalf of the late Speaker’s family.
Interment at the family cemetery in North Side followed, where Mrs. Moyle was laid to rest after a graveside service, which was also attended by hundreds of dignitaries, officials, family members, friends and members of the public.
Dignitaries attending the official service included His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Duncan Taylor, CBE, the Chief Justice, the Hon. Anthony Smellie, QC; the Deputy Governor, the Hon. Franz Manderson, Cert. Hon., JP; Deputy Premier and Minister of Tourism and District Administration, the Hon. Moses Kirkconnell, JP; Cabinet Ministers; MLAs, and senior government officials.
