Mourant Ozannes has announced that Hayden Isbister has joined the firm as a partner in its Cayman Islands corporate practice.

Hayden joined the firm at the beginning of June having spent nearly six years with Ogier in the Cayman Islands, most recently as a managing associate. He began his career at Minter Ellison in Australia.

Hayden specialises in investment funds, general corporate and finance work and has a proven track record of building and leading highly effective client-focused teams.

Mourant Ozannes has advised Jersey incorporated gold producer Polyus Gold International on a $750m (£497m) Eurobond issue.

Polyus Gold is the largest gold producer in Russia and one of the top 10 gold miners globally by ounces produced. The company holds the world’s third-largest gold reserves with nearly 88 million ounces of proven and probable gold reserves.

Partner James Hill and senior associate Jon Woolrich of Mourant Ozannes’ Jersey office advised Polyus Gold on the Eurobond issue. The issuance was of 5.625 per cent notes, due in 2020.

Debevoise & Plimpton acted as English and Russian counsel to Polyus Gold.

Mourant Ozannes has advised phone retailer Carphone Warehouse Group on a placing to raise funds for the proposed acquisition of CPW Europe.

Partner James Hill with senior associate Jon Woolrich and associate Suzanne Borrowman of Mourant Ozannes’ Jersey office advised Carphone Warehouse Group on the placing, which involved a Jersey cash box structure, to raise approximately £105m.

The proceeds of the placing are being used to part fund the proposed acquisition by Carphone Warehouse from Best Buy of its 50 per cent stake in CPW Europe.

Osborne Clarke acted as English counsel to Carphone Warehouse, providing advice alongside Carphone Warehouse’s in-house legal team.
