Baroness Scotland to deliver special lecture
Baroness Scotland was recently appointed to the Cayman Islands Judicial and Legal Services Commission and served as UK’s Attorney General (AG) from 2007 until May 2010. She was the first woman to hold that position and was the first black woman and the youngest lawyer (35) ever to be appointed a Queen’s Counsel.
After the Labour Party lost power in 2010 Baroness Scotland was shadow AG until 2011 when she gave up that position to become a full time lawyer.
Before all this the Baroness was the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office where she was responsible for the Overseas Territories. She held this position from 1999 to 2001.
The lecture next month is part of UCCI’s special distinguished lecture hosted by the UCCI board chair Berna Cummins. It will commence at 6:30pm at the college’s Sir Vassel Johnson Hall.
