Lions Club of Cayman Brac installs new officers
The Lions Club of Cayman Brac installed new officers at the Alexander Hotel on Saturday 8th June
The new president is Icilma Cornelius and first vice president is Laurel McLaughlin. Other officers are Elton Michaels – second vice president, Ventisha Conolly – third vice president, Angela Johnson – secretary and Fazileta Yusuf – treasurer.
The club also introduced new inductees Maureen Mito, Amory Smith, Nickeshia Smith and Gwendolyn Tate-Evans.
Devon Bowen received the Lion of the Year award from past Council Chairman John Ebanks.
Immediate past president Kevin Roberts presented a report of the club’s activities that revealed a very active year:
Projects included a wheel chair donation to Doreen Dilbert, Peace Poster Contest at Layman E Scott High School, breast cancer awareness campaign and a pajama reading party.
The club also teamed up with the Cayman Islands Diabetes Association, Sister Islands Chapter, and conducted screening at the annual Agriculture Show on Cayman Brac. The booth featured screening for blood sugar, BMI and blood pressure.
“Those who were screened were also provided with literature on a variety of health issues and preventative measures against certain diseases. The event tied in with the club’s emphasis this year on Health and Wellness,” the president’s report said.
The club also assisted a family with eye screening and purchase of eyeglasses for a young child.
Cayman National Bank provided sponsorship to enable the club to host its annual Corporate Cup Relays Run and Walk, catering to primary schools, high school, corporate businesses within Cayman Brac and church organisations. 21 teams participated.
