Harris to upgrade Caribbean gateway
Harris has been awarded a contract to modernise critical air traffic control (ATC) communications at two international airports in Jamaica.
Harris will supply its Liberty-STAR Voice Communication and Control System (VCCS) to the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay and the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston. Both airports are home to the country’s national airline, Air Jamaica.
“Jamaica’s economic prosperity is centered on its tourism industry and the ability to maintain safe and efficient airways,” said John O’Sullivan, vice president, Mission Critical Networks, Harris Government Communications Systems. “With over three-quarters of Jamaica’s international traffic landing at these two airports, Liberty-STAR will provide highly reliable ATC communications that will help the country’s economy thrive.”
This is the company’s first ATC communications contract in Jamaica. Harris has supplied communications systems for a wide range of countries in the Caribbean region, including the Dominican Republic, Barbados, Aruba, Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos.
