Quinnipiac Women’s Golf Adds Duo For 2013-14 Season

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac women’s golf head coach John O’Connor has announced the addition of incoming freshmen Nicole Scola (Westerly, R.I.) and Emily Ribbins (George Town, Cayman Islands) for the 2013-14 season.

“I’m excited to have two freshmen with national and international experience join our program,” O’Connor said. “Nicole and Emily are excellent students and will be a wonderful addition to our developing team.”

ScolaScola comes to Quinnipiac following an incredible high school career that saw the Prout School graduate  become just the second golfer in Rhode Island scholastic history to win four consecutive Rhode Island Womens High School Championship. Her last title came after Scola was in a potentially life-threatening car accident just four nights before the competition. Following her senior year, she was honored with her fourth consecutive Girl’s All-State Honor while also earning Boy’s All-State Honors.

After clinching her fourth-straight championship, Scola commented, “I chose Quinnipiac because of their overall package. The coach has done tremendously and the team is really driven. And their 3-in-1 MBA program is just what I want. With some advanced placement credits and some special credits I can earn while there, I’ll get a B.S. and an MBA in four years.”

For the past two summers, Scola has also taken home the Rhode Island Women’s Golf Association Amateur Title, before also capturing the Rhode Island Interscholastic League title.

RibbinsRibbins comes to Quinnipiac from the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. Prior to her one season at IMG, Ribbins was a member of the Cayman Islands Junior National Team from age 14-17 while also becoming the youngest member of the Cayman Islands National Team at 16 years old, capturing the Cayman Islands Ladies Championship in 2010 and 2011. She was also a member of the Connaught (Ireland) Girl’s Team that competed in the Irish Ladies Golf Union (ILGU).

At IMG, Ribbins competed in five tournaments in 2013, finishing in the Top 15 in all five, including a third-place finish at Laurel Oaks Country Club and a seventh-place finish at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club. Ribbins also finished 15th at the IMJ Junior Golf Tour Championship.

In 2011, she won a pair of President’s Trophy championships hosted by the Cayman Island Golf Association, capturing the junior championship while also posting the top female score. In 2012, she finished 4th out of 255 at the Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championship after placing sixth in 2010 and 15th in 2011.

Quinnipiac will open its 2013 Fall Season at the Tignanelli Towson Invitational at the Towson Golf & Country Club in Phoenix, Md. on Sept. 7-9, 2013. Additionally, the squad will compete in the Dartmouth Invitational (Sept. 13-15), the Yale Women’s Intercollegiate (Sept. 19-22), the St. John’s Invitational (Oct. 6-8), the Rutger’s Invitational (Oct. 13-15) before hosting the Quinnipiac Classic at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn. on Oct. 20-22.
