New Board of Directors for Port
Errol Bush takes up the position of chairman replacing John Henry Ebanks. Deputy Chairman is Gerry Kirkconnell who replaces Carlton Powery. Mr. Kirkconnell also serves as the Chamber of Commerce’s board representative.
Other new members are Arek Joseph, Woody DaCosta, Robert Foster and Jacqueline Scott.
Captain Ashton Bodden is the only member of the old board who has retained his seat.
Out are members James A. Bodden, Curly Evans, Rudolph Garvin and Anthony Akiwumi.
We have not been able to confirm whether previous Port Board Secretary, Paul W. Hurlston, is remaining in the post and/or on the board.
Mr. Errol Bush previously served with the port authority as managing director from 1986 until he retired in 2001. He also served two years as the Director of the International Association of Ports and Harbours, was a board member on the American Association of Port Authorities and was chairman of the Cayman Islands National Roads Authority. He is also a trustee of the Silver Thatch Pensions Plan
Non-voting members on the board include the government chief officer with responsibility for the port, the collector of customs and the financial secretary or his designate.
The mission at the Port Authority of the Cayman Islands is to contribute to the economic development of the Cayman Islands by fostering and stimulating waterborne commerce and shipment of freight. The Authority endeavours to achieve this by effectively managing the maritime affairs of the Cayman Islands and by accommodating the volume of imports by sea through the provision of adequate docking and cargo handling/storage facilities.
They also assist in the promotion of tourism through the provision of appropriate arrival and departure facilities for cruise ship passengers.
