Maples continues support for CIASA

Maples ChequeMaples and Calder is pleased to announce its continued title sponsorship of the Cayman Swimming National Development Programme offered by the Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association (“CIASA”). As title sponsor, Maples and Calder has committed CI$40,000 to the programme each year for two years.

The donation from the firm assists with remuneration of the programme’s Technical Director, a post most recently filled by Ian Armiger. In Ian’s first year at CIASA, results have improved drastically and swimmers are excelling as a direct result of his “fast swimming” philosophy. The positive results can also be attributed to the guidance and leadership he is providing to all of Cayman’s swimming coaches.

“Maples and Calder places much emphasis on the value of sports and the benefits it offers by way of fostering the development of focus, commitment and discipline in the youth of our islands,” said Mark Matthews, partner at Maples and Calder. “We look forward to the sustained success of the programme and perhaps eventually seeing more swimmers representing the Cayman Islands at international competitive levels through the assistance of programmes such as this.”

In the last year, more records have been broken than in previous years – many of which are records that have been in place for years, some as many as 10. Yet another testament to the programme’s advancement is swimmer performance at the 2013 CARIFTA games, where the Cayman Islands team saw three gold, four silver and seven bronze medals, as well as 69 personal bests and 28 finals appearances. With results such as these, it is clear that Cayman swimmers are moving in the right direction.

CIASA is a volunteer, not for profit association dedicated to furthering the interests of all aquatic sports in the Cayman Islands. CIASA is the recognised Governing Body of aquatic sports in the Cayman Islands and is a member of international swimming and aquatics associations such as FINA, UANA, and CCCAN, as well as the Cayman Islands Olympic Committee.
