Adv Dome Vio;encePosted by Kaneil Barrett Cayman Islands Seventh Day Adventist Church

In an Effort to stay relevant and meet the demands of a changing society, four (4) Pastors and (2) Bible Counsellors and there (3) Office staff members of the Cayman Islands Conference Completed a three day training seminar on Domestic Violence intervention on Thursday September five. The programme, which was Facilitated by, Brenda  Dawkins of the Family Resource Center and Cindy Blickitis  of the  Employee Assistance Programme, covered a wide range of material on the different types of abuse, new laws affecting domestic abuse, the protection of children, as well as the impact of these abuses on the wider society.

The programme participants also included members of the Royal Cayman islands police service, Social workers, Nurses and other frontline professionals. The commissioner of police, David Baines, who handed out certificates, along With Miriam Foster, Programme Coordinator of the Family Resources Center, encouraged the Participants to stay connected to each other and work together to help individuals work through their differences. He also noted that this was particularly important in The Cayman Islands which had over a 160 nationalities and all races represented within its borders. This diversity brings varying views, backgrounds, and worldviews to their personal relationships and only through a concerted effort on the part of the various stakeholders to understand and genuinely help individuals and families can a breakthrough be achieved.
