The full letter follows below:
His Excellency The Governor Mr. George Ferguson, The Premier Hon. Craig Cannonier JP MP, Chairman Bermuda Island Games Jon Beard,
I am writing on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Cayman Island Games Association to make public, our expressions of heartfelt thanks, in the first instance, to Bermuda Attaches to the Cayman Islands, Ms. Catherine Smith, (Lead Attache), Sheri Burgess, Master Tre Simons, and Elizabeth Richardson, the Island community of Bermuda on a whole.
A little over six weeks ago we, CIGA President, Richard Parchment, CIGA General Manager Victor Thompson, Cayman Islands Olympic Committee President, Donald McLean and myself, Assistant Team Manager, Carl Brown, were the beneficiaries of professional support, at times beyond the call of duty in our objectives to manage our teams and foster delightful out come in the NatWest Island Games Bermuda 2013.
Under the able and intuitive direction of Ms. Smith, we experienced delightful and informed exposure to Bermuda, coming away as best informed visitors. There was manifest generosity in spirit, limitless energy assisting us to attend multiple events in many places, long hours with much time on their feet, frequent drive times …volunteering at it’s very best.
We cannot fail to mention being on guided tours of the fine and diverse Bermudian cuisine… from the fish sandwich shop in Back O Town, to fine take away at the Smoke and Barrel and dining in historic St. George after night fall at the end of a long event day.
Catherine’s knowledge and guidance in recitation of Bermudian history provided us refreshing insight. We were regaled in Bermudian folklore, and matters of culture common to us islanders while exchanging stories.
Our every need was anticipated, with tremendous effort and display of ability exerted to resolve unforeseen challenges. The attention to detail, resourcefulness, conveyance to and from events in timely fashion, commends Catherine, Sheri, Liz and Tre to the status of “best attaches”. Thank you for cheering our Cayman teams, while remaining proud Bermudians, relentless in their desire to see your country do proud.
The enormous responsibilities associated with being a volunteer at events such as the NatWest Island Games should never be underestimated. Our Attaches did us proud
There are special people who stand out as genies of efficiency and challenge resolution. Organisers, Ms. Juanita Blee and Diane Gordon stand out among many we will not forget.
We are obliged to commend Fairmont Southampton Princess, client service Sierra Gordyk and Chelsea Todd for spirited hospitality, contributing to making our hotel stay a kindly memory.
We are appreciative of fellow islanders, Bermuda for hosting a quality occasion the NatWest Island Games 2013. Their attendance, spirited cheering, friendly exchanges, their offers of assistance, their display of national pride, their taking time out to help strangers, will mark our minds in pleasant memory.
Thank you Bermuda and see you in Jersey 2015
Regards
Carl Brown
On behalf of the Board of Directors Cayman Island Games Association
