Cayman official disputes ECHN execs’ claim that Caribbean sojourn is mandatory
Top officials at Eastern Connecticut Health Network [ECHN] and their spouses are again planning to make a yearly sojourn to a luxury resort in the Cayman Islands for what the regional nonprofit has described as a mandated business meeting of its offshore insurance company.
But Cayman law doesn’t require ECHN’s Connecticut Healthcare Insurance Co. subsidiary to hold either annual “general meetings” or “board meetings” there, according to a spokesman for the agency that regulates the more than 900 insurance companies registered in the island nation.
Kamaal Connolly, the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority official, added that only companies holding “Class A” and “Class D” licenses are required to conduct an annual “general meeting” — and that the law doesn’t stipulate” its location.
