The Editor Speaks: Stupidity

Colin WilsonwebThere has been much stupidity committed by supposedly sane human beings recently.

One of our stories today highlights a new book on stupidity called “Life on the Wrong Planet” written by H.G. Nowak, better known as “The Barefoot Man”.

He says, “This book is dedicated to my white dog named “Cat” and my black dog named “Dog”. If most humans were as loyal, appreciative, non-racial and friendly as these two mutts I’d have no gripe about being placed on the wrong planet.”

And:

“Common sense is NOT a gift, it’s punishment. Because you have to deal with everyone who doesn’t have it.”

If we wanted an example immediately of stupidity we only had to see the chaos and worry on Saturday (14) from an alleged hoaxer who called in a bomb threat at the Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman and the Caribbean Club.

At 4:15pm police, fire and other emergency personnel responded to the bomb threats at both locations. Traffic diversions and other precautionary measures were put in place and the two resorts were searched causing delays and much worry.

If it was a hoaxer and you are reading this you are one stupid individual!

When a real bomb threat is made it may not be taken seriously because of your insane act.

And an equally stupid comment is placed as a comment on the press release that is also on the CNS website. It reads:

“The fact that Cayman’s BOMB SQUAD consist of only Wiggles and his Dog it amazes me they cleared the place in under 2 hours!!!”

It amazes me how the blogger can be so stupid as to think such a stupid thing and actually be stupid enough to publish it and announce to the CNS readers how stupid HE is!

And now we have stupidity that has caused a trial to be delayed because the Crown only appeared to check whether its witnesses who were coming from overseas were actually available to appear today (Monday 16). They discovered this last Friday.

The High Court Judge diplomatically commented that it was very late in the day for the prosecutors to be discovering the witnesses were unavailable.

The trial date had been set in the summer!

Another piece of stupidness was on the part of our Utilities Company, CUC, in not sending out an announcement yesterday (Sunday 15) about the fire on one of their utility poles. If it hadn’t been for a release from the RCIPS that the pole in question was on Dorcy Drive and cars were being diverted from the Industrial Park Area no one would have known the reason for the electrical blackout. It was not only the area around the Owen Roberts Airport that was affected but also the South Sound Road area nearest the George Town capital centre.

I suppose CUC thought if the power is out no one could actually read the message!

However, as I write this the following day and it is after 11am there has been no release from CUC.

One of the persons affected by the blackout in South Sound Road was a family member who is incapacitated and has to use a wheelchair. He was at church when he got the telephone message that all was not well and he thought something was wrong at his home.

Of course CUC have a HOT LINE you can call. In the dark though you couldn’t see to read the number! With no one being informed by a release to the media everyone was in the dark.

Barefoot Man’s book gives many, many examples of stupidness and I must warn you some are very ‘raunchy’, but well worth a read.

I highly recommend the book.
