Police have arrested wanted rapist Jeffrey Barnes following an operation in Prospect on Tuesday afternoon.

On Monday detectives took the unusual step in naming 32-year-old Barnes as the man they wanted to question in connection with an alleged rape on Saturday morning.

A 49-year-old woman was abducted and sexually assaulted in Admiral’s Landing. Barnes was also wanted in connection with another sexual assault claim by a member of his own family.

On Tuesday afternoon around 1.45pm police arrested Barnes at a house in Ocean Club. A woman was also arrested at the scene in connection with obstructing police.

A spokeswoman for the RCIPS said: “We have made an arrest at a house in Ocean Club after a police operation there.”

Barnes had recently been released from Northward Prison where he served time in connection with the rape of a 16 year old girl.

Before Saturday’s alleged attack, an attempt was made three times to abduct an 11-year-old girl in the same area.

Barnes is currently being questioned by detectives.
