Cayman boutiques announce merger

Anthony-Travers-2-1024x706By Joanne Harris From The Lawyer

Cayman Islands boutiques Travers Thorp Alberga and Paget-Brown are merging in early 2014, just a year after the former enticed ex-Maples and Calder managing partner Anthony Travers back to practice.

Paget-Brown founder Ian Paget-Brown QC will join become a counsel at the enlarged firm, which will be known as Travers Thorp Alberga.

Travers Thorp Alberga expanded last year (3 December 2012) when Travers returned to legal practice after a six-year break. He was previously managing and senior partner of Cayman-headquartered Maples and Calder.

Ian-Paget-BrownLegacy Thorp Alberga was founded in 2010 by Michael Alberga, launching a Hong Kong office shortly afterwards (19 April 2010). In the following three years the firm has expanded rapidly, hiring partners from Maples and Walkers as well as Travers (6 October 2011, 18 December 2012).

Paget-Brown has run his own firm for almost 40 years. He said that the time was now right for his clients to benefit from a larger practice.

Travers said the merger was a “perfect match and a natural progression” for the two firms.
