Digicel committed to investing in Barbados
Digicel last week launched the new 4G Zone in Colonnade Mall in Bridgetown, this after a few weeks ago opening Digicel in Oistins.
CEO Mark Linehan, CEO of Digicel Barbados Ltd. maintained, “We believe in Barbados and will continue to express this through improvements in all of our stores, as well as increasing our business footprint.
“The launch of the new 4G Zone in Bridgetown is essentially a new display area, using the latest in technology to allow customers to learn more about the data-ready devices which Digicel carries. We have introduced the BLU line of handsets to the Digicel range of devices, bringing customers another affordable option of 4G and 4G devices.”
According to Alex Tasker, Commercial Director of Digicel (Barbados) Ltd, “The new 4G Zone with line devices to interact with gives customers the opportunity to play around with the phone or tablet which peaks their interest, therefore assisting them in making a more informed choice as to the extraordinary devices they would like to own. This is another example of Digicel’s continued commitment to improving the customer experience, which has always and will continue to be our primary focus.”
He also reported, “The newly launched Oistins branch has been doing very well since opening a few week ago. The tremendous response to that location is evidence of Barbadians’ hunger for accessible and convenient locations to assist them with getting the services they require on the daily basis.”
Tasker indicated as it relates to investment, “We also continue to invest in our network and by March 2014 we will be doubling our data capacity and extending our coverage across Barbados, with total planned investment in 4G over the next 12 months estimated to be in the region of bds$25million. It is expected that over two thirds of this will be deployed by the end of the year.
“The investment comes at a time when the Barbadian mobile consumer’s use of 4G date is climbing at a rapid rate, therefore demanding greater capacity and wider coverage in order to facilitate their data usage needs. The majority of the data traffic on our network is seen on our 4G network.
“We monitor usage trends on a daily basis and have seen that more and more of our customers are using data, so much that the majority of the handsets on our network are smarter phones.
We have also been able to analyze their usage patterns as it relates to a general overview of the sites which are most visited and the apps used (YouTube, Facebook, Instgram, Google), thus helping to inform our decision to continue the expansion of our 4G capacity.” (NB)
