KINGSTON, Jamaica, Sunday December 22, 2013, CMC – The police are still trying to ascertain the motive behind an incident late Friday that led to the death of a policeman and injured his colleague.

The police report that a District Constable and his female colleague – a Corporal, were shot in the community of August Town  – located on the outskirts of the corporate area, where they went to arrest a wanted man.

The Constable succumbed to his injuries while his colleague was admitted to hospital.

National Security Minister, Peter Bunting, has condemned the attack stating that despite the “unrelenting efforts of the security forces, criminals are still determined to unleash terror on the society.”

“I ask that you use every legal means to find these criminals and bring them to justice,” he said in a release on Friday

He said at this time of the year when there should be goodwill and good cheer, the family of the district constable has been robbed of a loved one.

The Portia Simpson Miller led administration has been grappling with a spike in murders. To date 1,170 murders have been recorded since the start of the year.
