(Grand Cayman/Cayman Islands) – Trinidad & Tobago created history by securing a place in the semifinals of the 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Under 20 Championship for the first time on Sunday 12 January after defeating hosts Cayman Islands 4-0 at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex, in the Cayman Islands.

Trinidad & Tobago, one of the three Caribbean Football Union (CFU) representatives in the tournament, has amassed six points from two matches thus far and have joined Group B leaders Mexico, also on six points as the two semi-finalists from the group. They both will meet on Tuesday to determine the group winner, while hosts CaymanIslands will be looking to end the tournament on a positive note with victory over Honduras.

In the clash of the CFU representatives, it was the Soca Princesses, Patrice Campbell who squeezed one pass the Cayman Islands goalkeeper Kristina Seymour in the second minute of the game. Fifteen minutes later Jetena Bodden scored an own goal. Then 5 minutes before the first half came to a close, one of the twin sisters, Khadidra Debesette struck a decisive goal for the Trinidadians to take a commanding 3-0 lead into the dressing room.

With no sign of letting up, the Soca Princesses kept their feet on the accelerator from the first minute of the second half when the Caymanian defence had difficulty clearing the ball from their area. Brianna Ryce crossed the ball into the path of Anique Walker who wasted no time in depositing the ball into the back of the net.

For the Caymanians, there were signs of strength and hope for their last game of the tournament as they withstood the pressure from Trinidad & Tobago for the next 44 minutes and denying other scoring opportunities which resulted in the game ending 4-0.

From Group A the United States are into the semis having won their first two matches; while Jamaica and Costa Rica will battle for the last semi-final spot remaining. They meet on Monday, January13, at 5:00PM after which the USA will look to end the group stage of the tournament with a maximum nine points when they encounter Guatemala in the night cap at 7:30PM.
