The Aussie Observer says: “Spend your next vacation in the Cayman Islands”

cayman2The Cayman Islands are some of the premier holiday destinations in the Caribbean mainly owing to the pleasant, balmy tropical climate all year long. The Islands are also some of the most culturally vibrant locations even in such a colorful region of the world with well over a 100 different nationalities represented in the population of 56, 000 who live on the three-island archipelago in the Caribbean Sea.

Top Tourist Attractions on the Cayman Islands

Though comparably tiny compared to neighbors such as Jamaica and Cuba, the Caymans Islands attract a large number of tourists every year. There are many options for a discerning visitor to stay in while on holiday.

The main attractions to the islands include

Scuba Diving and snorkeling off Seven Mile Beach

Pedro St James Castle

Hell, Grand Cayman

Scuba Diving and Snorkelling

The Seven Mile Beach is the most famous tourist destination on the Cayman Islands. Located to the western shore of the Grand Cayman Island, the Seven Mile Beach is franked by the island’s most famous hotels and resorts.

The most well known fun activities off the Cayman Islands are scuba diving and snorkeling. The Sting Ray City is especially popular owing to the opportunity for divers to swim with sting rays which are abundant in this area of the Caribbean Sea.

Pedro St James Castle

The Pedro St James Castle is located in Savannah on the southern coast of the Grand Cayman and is reputed to be the oldest man-made structure in the entire Cayman Islands territory. After many decades of neglect, the ruins of the castle were restored in 1996, with the two stories and verandas rebuilt to fit the original 18th century style.

The historical and cultural significance of the castle to the Cayman Islands is invaluable. In 1831, it served as the sitting for the local parliament. It was also on the balcony of the Pedro St James Castle’s balcony that the Slavery Abolition Act was read in 1835.

To Hell and Back

Hell is a famous tourist destination on the Grand Cayman Island. The name actually applies to a group of blackened limestone formations occupying an area no larger than a hundred square feet. People are restricted from actually walking up to the limestone formations and tourists have to observe the curious site from platforms constructed for just that purpose.

The main attraction to hell is not the actual rock formations but the nearby post office where visitors can send postcards from Hell. There is also a gift shop where the self-styled Satan Ivan Farrington regales delighted tourists with such greetings as “how the hell are you?” and “Where the hell are you from?”

The range of activities to make your Cayman Islands holiday is much longer than the scope of this article. You can get more details about things to do in grand cayman and destination guides dedicated to the Caribbean region.

Where to Stay During your Cayman Islands Holiday

In such a vibrant tourist destination as the Grand Cayman Island, you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to finding a place to stay.  Many people who visit the island are so enchanted by local attractions that they opt to return every year to sample local delights. If you are one such, it would be a good idea to look for a holiday home such as the one offered by Kenneth Dart, a leading realty firm on the island.
