Machinery and plant manufacturers have successfully started into 2022: In January, new orders increased by 19 percent year-on-year in real terms. The war in Ukraine did not yet play a role.
Machinery and plant manufacturers have made an encouraging start to 2022: in January, new orders increased by 19 percent in real terms compared with the previous year. Domestic orders increased by 22 percent – the statistical base effect also played a role here. Orders from abroad were 18 percent higher; this growth was partly due to large-scale plant business. Orders from the euro countries increased by 21 percent, and 16 percent more orders came from outside the euro zone. “Of course, the Russian aggression in Ukraine could not yet play a role in January, and the effects of the war will not be seen in the order figures until March at the earliest,” says VDMA economic expert Olaf Wortmann.”The Russian aggression in Ukraine could of course not yet play a role in January.”Olaf Wortmann, Economic Expert VDMA
In the less volatilet hree-month period from November 2021 to January 2022, orders were up 21 percent on the previous year. Domestic orders were up 17 percent, while foreign orders were up 23 percent. An increase of 25 percent was recorded from the euro countries, and 22 percent more orders came from the non-euro countries.
