Growing Hemp: Post World-War 1

During these times, the United Kingdom prohibited the growing of hemp because it is often confused with other forms of cannabis. And cannabis is more commonly known to induce a psychoactive effect, which makes it a highly dangerous drug.

Hemp in Europe

The majority of European hemp is cultivated in France. However, residents from the United Kingdom are allowed to grow industrial hemp as long as they are licensed by the Home Office Controlled Drugs Licensing Department.

The licence for owning hemp has fees. The cost of getting a license is currently at £580, while its renewal can be paid at £326. Apart from investing a particular amount of money, anyone who is opting to grow hemp in the United Kingdom is also subjected to comply for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to validate their eligibility of permit.
