A Heartfelt Christmas Concert had my heart singing

Christmas arrived with music aplenty at The Harquail Theatre last Saturday (8) when Cayman Music School staged an outstanding demonstration of “vocal and instrumental talents”.

It was a very enjoyable evening and the talents ranged from the students of very, very young age, to the professionals of maturity.

Inna Kazakova

Full marks must be given to the director of the Cayman Music School, Inna Kazakova, for staging the musical extravaganza that showed off her pupils’ talents and the teachers’, along with Simeon Panov and Damayanka Ivanova the esteemed Concert Pianist and Concert Violinist. Their solo performances got a standing ovation.

There was a guest performance also from Cayman’s own Stuart Wilson who played an original piece of music called “Rule the World” accompanied by the Band and Choir.

That is not to take anything away from all the other performers who had to do an encore performance of their last number, “Let It Be Christmas” to the delight of the audience who stood up and kept clapping until Inna, who was conducting, gave in and allowed it to happen.

The opening number set the tone for what was to come when all the performers were on stage for “Carol of the Bells”.

The 9 piece Kids Band opened up the second half with “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”.

Other musical numbers included “The

Bee”, “Let It Snow”, “Circle of Life”, “All I Want for Christmas is You”, Valse-Scherzo by Tchaikovsky, Faust Waltz by Listz, Someone Like You by Adele, Bach’s Double Violin Concerto in D minor and Musica proibita by Gastaldon.

Singer Garrett Chase gave excellent renditions of “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” and “Sway”.

I must not forget the MC who was the wild woman herself, Vicki Wheaton, and she kept the fun moving along with her zany wit between some of the gaps between the acts and drawing the many prizes, promising to deliver the prizes to the winners, and then retracting on that!

The food and wine was also well received.

Although the theatre was not packed, there was a goodly number and I hope the Cayman Heart Fund benefitted well from the event.

If Cayman Music School decides to perform again next year then I will be the first one at the door. It is not to be missed.
