Grand Cayman, 01 July 2024: This morning, Governor Mrs. Jane Owen and Hon. Premier Juliana O’Connor-Conolly convened a meeting of the National Hazard Management Executive to discuss immediate measures for the Cayman Islands in preparation for the potential arrival of Hurricane Beryl.

Key Points from the Meeting:

  1. Weather Forecasts and Updates: The latest information from the National Weather Service was reviewed to assess potential risks and impacted areas.
  2. Emergency Response Plan: Immediate actions by organisations and departments for emergency response and resource allocation were reviewed.
  3. Review of Flood Prone Areas: Maps of flood prone areas were reviewed, and sandbag allotments were determined.
  4. Emergency Shelter Readiness: A list of emergency shelters and Emergency Medical Centres was reviewed and capacity levels for each were confirmed.
  5. Regiment Deployment Readiness: The Cayman Islands Regiment’s deployment readiness was discussed.
  6. Activation of the Disaster Fund: Plans for the activation of the Disaster Fund were discussed should it become necessary.
