A local multimedia and production company has teamed up with Tempo – a pan-Caribbean media and entertainment company that produces and promotes the work of musicians and other artistes – to reposition “Antigua & Barbuda as the event capital of the entire Caribbean”.

MAVERICK Entertainment has collaborated with the management of the flagship cable television network to host a series of activities that will promote the work of upcoming artistes and other cultural icons in Antigua.

“MAVERICK and Tempo are collaborating to put the Antigua music scene on a totally different level,” said former telecommunications minister, Dr Edmond Mansoor, who is one of the principals of the fairly new local company.

“Antigua & Barbuda will be well situated to benefit from what is clearly a success model. The economy stands to benefit from the linkages that we are creating with Tempo.”

He added that the partnership will also coincide with Tempo’s 10th anniversary.

Mansoor said MAVERICK Entertainment aims to highlight the talents of young and upcoming artistes whose work is not widely promoted.

Their creations will be showcased on Tempo’s network, which is currently broadcasting in 24 Caribbean islands, with approximately three million viewers according to the company’s website.

MAVERICK and Tempo will collaborate on a series of events which will be rolled out in the upcoming year.

The first production is a concert to be held in January 31, 2015, at Splash Antigua.

Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Caribbean Tempo Frederick Morton Jr said the event will feature a slew of Caribbean artistes as well as locals.

“There will be representatives of all of Tempo’s previous events, as you know, our main mission is to highlight Caribbean talent,” Morton said.

The CEO said the destination was chosen because of its cultural significance.

“Every time I hit Antigua, the love has been extraordinary. Antigua is one of those places that has made so much contribution to Caribbean culture; it is one of those things that are measurable,” Morton said.

Later, in 2015, various aspects of the country will be featured highly on Tempo’s Cross Caribbean Countdown.

Cross Caribbean Countdown charts the latest and greatest tunes along with music videos, across all genres, from artistes across the region.

Tempo’s programming includes drama, tourism, movies, news, concerts, documentaries, and music videos, and addresses all aspects of Caribbean life through online, television and mobile mediums.
