ABC flooded with 25k complaints after show mocked Pence’s faith
ABC has received more than 25,000 calls after its daytime show “The View” likened Vice President Mike Pence’s religious beliefs to mental illness last week, Fox News reports.
During a segment last week defending former White House aide Omarosa Manigault, show co-host Joy Behar proceeded to mock the power of prayer, a practice central to the faith of Pence and millions of Christians.
“It’s one thing to talk to Jesus. It’s another thing when Jesus talks to you … that’s called mental illness,” Behar said.
Pence has spoken out against the show and ABC several times since, and so have 25,363 callers, Fox reports. Further, Media Research Council President Brent Bozell also penned an open letter to ABC demanding an apology.
Behar offered a half-hearted non-apology during a subsequent show.
“I don’t mean to offend people but apparently I keep doing it,” Behar said. “It was a joke.”
