Advent programmes prepare for Christmas
Cayman Islands Singing Christmas Tree
Moving into its third successful year, the Cayman Islands Singing Christmas Tree is unparalleled to any other Christmas event on the Cayman Islands. The Cayman Singing Christmas Tree highlighted the story of our Savior’s birth depicted through a 25 foot Christmas tree, 5,000 lights, cast, choir and orchestra.
The event took place on Saturday Nov 30th and Sunday Dec 1st at 6:30pm in the grounds of the First Assembly of God.
If that didn’t herald in the start of Christmas and get you in the mood nothing would.
St. George’s Anglican Church Advent Crusade
This was held each night at 7pm Monday Dec 2nd – Fri Dec 6th in the St George’s Anglican Church Parking Lot, Courts Road, off Eastern Avenue, George Town. Various church groups took part with guests from other churches performing. The Guest Speaker was Rev. Leslie Mowatt, Rector of Church of St Mary the Virgin, Molynes Road, Jamaica and former musician with Byron Lee and the Dragonaires.
Cayman Islands Male Voice Choir was in fine form on Friday Dec 6th at Elmslie Memorial United Church at 7:30pm with featured soloist Rudy Myles.
It was a stirring performance of Christmas favourites finishing with a medley of carols separated into segments including ones featuring ‘Angels’.
My favourite was Mr Myles’ performance of “Redeeming Love” that was so beautiful the medley had to stop because of the resounding applause from the attendees.
The disappointment was the church was only half full of audience and it deserved a packed house.
Most of you missed a real treat!
The Grand Cayman Chapter of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International (FGBMFI) held its Christmas Breakfast on Saturday Dec 7th at 8:00am, at The Holiday Inn Resort, Crystal Harbour.
The Men brought with them their spouses or girl friends and were treated to not only a sumptuous breakfast and comradeship but a very interesting speech from Mr Vernon Jackson on Cayman in the past.
Other members spoke and sang and all members and guests sang Christmas carols.
Cayman27’s Parade of Lights is probably the most watched Advent event in Cayman and took place at Camana Bay on Saturday Dec 7th at 6pm with the Church of God Children’s Choir, Bona Fide and the First Baptist Church providing entertainment prior to the parade beginning at 7 p.m. The boats made their way across the front of The Festival Green and The Crescent. There were two categories for prizes – “Private” won by Ladner Watler and “Watersports Operator” won by Sunset Divers.
A spectacular Fireworks Display took place immediately after the parade finished just before 8pm.
CITN/Cayman27 televised the event live.
