Airline advocates a more united Caribbean with open skies

From Cuban News Agency

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 6 (ACN) Philippe Bayard, president of Sunrise Airways, which inaugurated a new air route between Havana and Santo Domingo, said in this capital its intention to promote and encourage open skies for the Caribbean.

In a meeting with tour operators and authorities of the Cuban civil aeronautics in the Sevilla hotel in Havana, the executive said he was satisfied by the participation of Sunrise Airways in the increase of links between Dominican Republic, Haiti and Cuba.

Today, with the inauguration of this route, we celebrate the Caribbean, an area with countries united by common historical ties, and also by cultural and social traits that identify us, he said.

He assured that tourism and air transport are essential elements to facilitate cultural and commercial relations in the area, which could mean a lot for the future of the nations of the region.

Bayard recalled that several directors of Caribbean aeronautical organizations have previously pronounced on the need to promote this form of transport as the engine of the area’s unity.

The essential objective, he said, is expressed in the One Caribbean concept, united from diversity.

Bayard proposed that his company’s planes carry, during 2019, the logo created for Havana’s 500th anniversary celebrations, considering it highly important.

The executive remarked that so far in 2018, his company transported more than 225,000 passengers, and aims to exceed 300,000 for the coming one.

Sunrise Airways was created in 2010, covers some 20 destinations and is currently one of the fastest growing airlines in the region.
