Annual Remembrance Day Ceremony, Sunday 12 November
The Cayman Islands Government Protocol Office invites members of the public to attend the annual Remembrance Day ceremony to be held at the Cenotaph, Elmslie Memorial United Church in George Town on Sunday, 12 November, starting promptly at 10:45 a.m.
Attendees and participants are asked to be assembled and seated by 10:30 a.m.
The Remembrance Day ceremony precedes the public holiday to be observed on Monday, 13 November.
The ceremony will encompass a religious service, including the solemn laying of wreaths and a parade by the uniformed services. A royal salute to the Acting Governor Franz Manderson will be performed by the mixed contingent of detachments compromising of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, the Islands’ Regiment, Fire Service, His Majesty’s Prison Service, Coast Guard, Girls’ Brigade, Cayman Islands Scout and Cub Scouts, Cadet Corps and Seventh Day Pathfinders, an act that embodies deep respect and admiration for the valour of the service members.
In accordance with tradition, attendees are encouraged to wear poppies, the enduring symbol of remembrance and respect. Poppies are available at the Government Administration Building on Grand Cayman and the District Administration Building on Cayman Brac. The Cayman Islands Veterans’ Association will also have poppies available at the event.
The public is reminded that certain roads will be temporarily closed to facilitate the ceremony and therefore advised to heed these closures and make suitable travel arrangements. Detailed information on road closures is available at www.rcips.ky.
