ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, Monday March 3, 2014, CMC – Antigua and Barbuda has “strongly condemned” the murder of at least 28 people during the “terrorist attack” at a train station in Kunming, China over the weekend.

Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer said that attack, which left more than 100 people injured when knife-wielding men attacked commuters, should be condemned and was “very distressing”.

In a note to  Premier Li Keqiang of the People’s Republic of China, Prime Minister Baldwin said he supports every effort by the government to bring those responsible for “this heinous crime to justice.

“The People’s Republic of China is a close friend of Antigua and Barbuda and we value this friendship and therefore we view this attack on our friends as very distressing,” Baldwin said, adding that St. John’s was extending “condolences …to the families of those who lost loved ones and those who were injured by the horrendous terrorist act.

“To the people of China, I urge you to remain strong and resolute in your efforts to remove every form of terrorism from your nation. I hope the law authorities in the People’s Republic of China will move swiftly to bring to justice those who are responsible for this attack and to remove from your society those who support, finance and organize terrorism activities.”

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has also strongly condemned the attack that took place on Saturday adding that he hoped that those responsible would be brought to justice.

In a statement, the UN official said “there is no justification for the killing of innocent civilians and hopes that those responsible will be brought to justice.”
