The Unique Infrastructure Group is said to be constructing a new data center for Apple on the Dutch Caribbean island of Curaçao according to a post by Among Tech.

The data center is said to be part of the Ctex project – an initiative from the government of Curaçao to create the ‘Silicon Valley’ of the Southern Caribbean.

It is reported the facility was almost completed however the company originally building the facility went bankrupt.

It is not yet known when the facility will come online.

Earlier this year Apple was reported to be planning a facility in the Netherlands to serve its European customers.

Just last week Apple announced plans to add several new data cluster buildings to its facilities in Reno, Nevada.

The center, first launched in 2013 and is currently in its second phase of construction, which is due to finish in Q3 2014.

The technology giant also announced it is moving mainland Chinese users’ data to servers in a facility hosted by China Telecom.

Apple states the move is an effort to improve the speed and reliability of its iCloud services and by positioning data centers as close to its customers as possible means they will receive a faster service.

In a statement released on Friday Apple said it takes user security and privacy very seriously.

“We have added China Telecom to our list of data center providers to increase bandwidth and improve performance for our customers in mainland china. All data stored with our providers is encrypted. China Telecom does not have access to the content,” the statement read.
