His Excellency the Governor, Duncan Taylor, CBE, has announced the appointments of Mr Wesley Howell as Supervisor of Elections and Ms. Sheena Glasgow and Mrs. Suzanne Bothwell as Deputy Supervisors.  These appointments will take effect from 1 July 2013.

Mr. Howell, Deputy Chief Officer in the Portfolio of Internal and External Affairs, has over 20 years’ experience of working with the Elections Office in various roles. Mr Howell, who said he was “delighted and honoured by the appointment”, will be working alongside the current Supervisor, Mr Kearney Gomez and his team over the next couple of months in order to ensure a smooth transition.

Ms. Glasgow and Mrs. Bothwell will replace Mr Colford Scott and Mr Orrett Connor as Deputy Supervisors of Elections. The third Deputy Supervisor, District Commissioner Mr Ernie Scott, will remain in the position.

Ms. Glasgow is a 20-year veteran of the Civil Service.  For the past 10 years, she has headed the Cayman Islands Postal Service as Postmaster General.  Prior to her tenure with the Postal Service, she worked in the former Ministry of Planning, Communications, Works, and Information Technology and at Radio Cayman where her Civil Service career began as a Clerical Officer.  Considering herself to be a career civil servant at heart, Ms. Glasgow said she is honoured by the new role, and expects it to be a very challenging one. “We have only just begun to see the impact of recent constitutional changes on Cayman’s political landscape, so the role of the Elections Office in overseeing future electoral processes will remain an important one.”

Mrs. Bothwell, employed as a Senior Crown Counsel in the Attorney General’s Chambers, has also worked closely with the Elections Office in that capacity and in her past role as Director of the Constitutional Review Secretariat (2007-2009) under the tutelage of then Cabinet Secretary Mr. Orrett Connor.  Mrs. Bothwell stated that she is “happy to be working alongside Mr. Connor and his colleagues once more, that she is grateful for the opportunity to serve the public in this way and that she looks forward to working with the newly appointed team and Elections Office staff in maintaining the high standards of Cayman’s election process.”
