Are you a Reader? Take the Summer Reading Challenge!

The Cayman Islands Library Service’s Summer Reading Challenge for all children ages 6-17 starts 16 July, but those interested should register this week (9-14 July).

Children will be separated into age groups. Each group will have a different challenge and each age group is eligible to win a prize for completing the Reading Challenge. Prizes will be presented at the end of the programme.

The age groups and specific reading challenges are:

  • Group One – Ages 6 – 9

Students in Group One are required to read a total of 50 minutes each week or 10 minutes a day for five days each week during the challenge for a total of 250 minutes and complete a minimum of five age appropriate books.

  • Group Two – Ages 10-14

Students in Group Two are required to read a total of 100 minutes each week or 20 minutes a day for five days each week during the challenge for a total of 500 minutes and complete at least five age appropriate books.

  • Group Three – Ages 15-17

Students in Group Three are required to read a total of 100 minutes each week or 20 minutes a day for five days each week during the challenge for a total of 500 minutes and complete at least five age appropriate books.

All students reading the recommended hours per week and completing the number of required age appropriate books will be entered into a drawing for the prizes.
