Sri Lanka’s young fast bowler Asitha Fernando, now on a Windies tour has shown a fine gesture of gifting one of his shoe pair to the poor West Indies player. This was revealed by Charith Senanayake, the manager of the A team on Caribbean Islands.
“As ambassadors of the country, guess to make their mark off the field is equally important as on the field. Our young right-arm medium fast bowler, Asitha Fernando gave his pair of boots to a young West Indian bowler who was bowling at us in the nets wearing rubbers”.
“It was a great gesture by this young lad and that made us extremely happy and grateful. The boy will alaways remember this”.
Later, speaking exclusively, the 20-year-old right-handed pacer, who played one ODI for Sri Lanka (against Zimbabwe in July this year), said, “I saw him bowling at the nets in rubber shoews. Since he looked promising, I decided to give him my boots”.
“I hope he will make use of it and become a top class player one day”.
The Windies boy who was benefited with Asitha Fernando’s sporting gesture is identified as Jamaica’s Aundre Lowe.
“I will look up to this boy and hope he will play for West Indies one day”.
“I had only two pairs with me but have decided to give him my spare (pair). I will manage with what I have now for the rest of the tour”.
“I wish him well”, Fernando signed off.
