Atlantic Caribbean Union Mission of Seventh-day Adventists Waylon Johnson’s Bible Boom Finals

Last year, Waylon Johnson of the Eight Mile Rock Seventh-day Adventist Church, made history twice. He was the first Bible Bowl winner of the newly formed Atlantic Caribbean Union Mission (ACUM). The event which was held in Nassau, Bahamas brought together the four contestants representing the four fields of ACUM, namely, the Cayman Islands Conference, the North Bahamas Conference, the South Bahamas Conference and The Turks and Caicos Islands Mission. Representing, the North Bahamas Conference, Waylon demonstrated that young people are serious about studying the Word of God. Then in December, 2012, having won the union finals, he represented the ACUM, at the Inter-American Division finals in Puerto Rico. The contestants came from 22 unions from throughout the Caribbean, Central America and the northern portion of South America. History was made the second time, when Waylon, became the first contestant from an English speaking union to win the Bible Bowl at the division level.

This year, in recognition of this important accomplishment, the Atlantic Caribbean Union will hold its second Bible Boom finals (originally Bible Bowl) on the Island of Grand Bahama. The event was held on Thursday November 1 at 6:45 p.m. at Shiloh SDA church, in Freeport. The winner of this contest will represent the union at the Inter-America Division finals to be held on Sabbath evening December 8, at the University of the Southern Caribbean in Trinidad. The objective of the Bible Boom is to see at least 75 percent of the young people throughout the division, engaged in the study of the Bible. The four contestants for this year’s union finals were: Chamelle Williams – Cayman Islands Conference, Kesa Petit-frere – North Bahamas Conference, Alexandria Scott- South Bahamas Conference and Crystal Ferrier- Turks and Caicos Island Mission.

During the same evening of the union final eight youth leaders from the North Bahamas Conference who have trained and completed the Masterguide curriculum were invested as Masterguides. Masterguides are the leaders and directors of the Pathfinder Youth organization. Special guest for this event will be Pastor Benjamin Carballo, Youth Ministries Director of the Inter-American Division of Seventh-day Adventists. Pastor Andrew E. Burrows, Youth Ministries Director for the Atlantic Caribbean is the host.
