The Cayman Islands have grown to become the hottest holiday destination in the Caribbean, perhaps because they have more things to offer than they are famous for. Here are some things you can do in the Cayman Islands, other than snorkeling and scuba diving, for which they are known.

The East End Light, a.k.a. Gorling Bluff Light, is one of the major tourist attractions in the Cayman Islands. Located on the Grand Cayman Island, it is an active lighthouse managed by the National Trust for the Cayman Islands.

Go to Hell

This group of short, sharp, black limestone pinnacles in Grand Cayman is believed to have got its name, when a local official exclaimed, “This is what Hell must look like.” You are not allowed to set foot on the limestone formations, but you can see them from one of the viewing platforms. You can then proudly tell your friends that you have been to Hell and back!

Visit Pedro St. James

If history is what interests you, Pedro St. James may just be the perfect place for you. Built in 1780, the castle has been a witness to the abolition of slavery from the islands, and the rise of democracy. It has also served as a prison and a plantation home. Don’t forget to visit the small museum that the castle houses, if you wish to know about Cayman history.

Drive to the Cayman Motor Museum

This automobile museum features about 80 exotic and classic cars, and motorbikes from the private collection of a wealthy Norwegian businessman. Look specially for the original Batmobile and Batcycle from the Batman series, and a replica of the 1886 Benz, the world’s first car. The line of red Ferraris is also extremely impressive.

Pay a Visit to the Cayman Turtle Farm

A conservation facility for raising the endangered Green Sea Turtles, the Cayman Turtle Farm lets the visitors to actually pick up some of the young ones. Moreover, if you like snorkeling, you can head to the farm’s snorkeling area, where you can also spend some time in water with the older turtles.

See the Blue Iguana

Endemic to Grand Cayman Island, the Blue Iguana has been restored from the brink of extinction. The best place to spot these creatures is the Botanic Garden in Grand Cayman, where they are often found along ponds and vegetal patches. Remember to see these creatures while in the Cayman Islands, as you won’t be able to spot them anywhere else in the world.

Enjoy the Spicy Roadside Flavors

The multi-cultural population of the Cayman Islands and the enormous tourist influx have resulted in a diverse culinary culture.
