Bahamian production company delivers live satellite video feed to Good Morning America, ABC News and WPLG
FREEPORT, Grand Bahama — The recent news story about the fire that took place on the Royal Caribbean Grandeur of the Seas ship, which took refuge at Freeport harbour after the incident, has been picked up by many news agencies. ABC News, Good Morning America and WPLG channel 10, the ABC affiliate in Miami, all ran stories on the incident.
ABC News contacted Bahamian media production company Keen i Media to provide production support and deliver live video feeds to these three news entities this week. Keen i Media, based in Freeport, provided production crew, equipment and technical expertise that enabled ABC reporter Matt Gutman (follow him on Twitter at @mattgutmanABC) to send a live satellite feed to ABC News on Tuesday morning.
This isn’t the first time Keen i Media has been tapped to assist international media companies. PEOPLE Magazine, Inside Edition, Entertainment Tonight and HBO have all relied on Keen i Media to provide production services from The Bahamas.
“We’re happy we can help them get the standard of work they need without the added costs and time associated with bringing their crews in,” said Keen i Media President Erik Russell. “These companies need people that they can rely on because they often don’t know what they will get when they move outside the U.S. So, besides the production services themselves, we also help them find the best locations and engage local talent, when that is needed.”
Good Morning America reporter Matt Gutman reports live from Freeport, Grand Bahama, where the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Grandeur of the Seas docked after experiencing a fire onboard.Mr Russell said that this week’s news story provided a particular challenge. “Going live via satellite is especially tricky, as there is no room for error. You have to be ready well ahead of time, pick the best location figuring in lighting and weather conditions, and make sure your people and equipment are well prepared,” he said.
Keen i Media also has assisted the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism with some unique demands. Last May the U.K. branch of the Ministry called on the company to produce an underwater wedding video. “We used five cameras, with two underwater, to shoot that day. We had a dolphin in the open ocean, and seven people in the underwater ceremony, but it came off without a hitch,” Mr Russell explained.
This week, the production crew from Keen i Media heads to New York City to produce scenes for an upcoming TV commercial for one of their clients in The Bahamas.
