Baptist choir serenades Elmslie
The First Baptist Choir has made a formidable reputation for themselves on Grand Cayman with their powerful beautiful singing of a large diverse repertoire. They have been wowing thousands of persons for many years at CITN/Cayman27’s Parade of Lights and the power of television has brought their talents into our homes even if we haven’t seen them live.
And seeing and hearing them live is a rare treat.
Even over the loud, but not annoyingly so, piped full orchestral accompaniments, the 40 member choir soared powerfully above it and such was the excellent sound system they brought with them, you could clearly hear each choir member’s voice.
There were some numbers that required lead soloists and the choir is blessed with many. There were small testimonies from other choir members who also introduced some of the songs and the screen that flew above them showed the words even though you could hear clearly every syllable. However, it enabled us who were there to join in when we got the signal.
Dave Jorge is the Choir Conductor and Worship Pastor and he has a demanding job with such a big choir. I was surprised to learn that this was not the full choir. That is 60 persons strong. 60! Wow!!
There was much variety in the music ranging from contemporary and ‘happy clappy’ to heart wrenching slow majestic. My favourite was the Keith Getty/Stuart Townend composition “The Power of the Cross”. Many of the audience were moved to tears including myself.
Thank you First Baptist.
