After being hauled before the courts for allegedly marrying an ex-convict, a prison officer walked out of court today a free woman after the charge against her was dropped.

Shanel Wendy Antonia Ellis Vaughn, 40, of Hillaby, St Thomas, had been accused of knowingly associating with Adrian Vaughn, an ex-prisoner, sometime between November 13, 2009 and February 28, 2012, without the permission of the officer-in-charge.

But when Vaughn, who had been out on $2500 bail reappeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Douglas Frederick, prosecutor Station Sergeant Carrison Henry told the court, the police was no longer interested in continuing with the matter.

Henry said he had been directed to withdraw the charge.
