Grand Cayman, 24 March 2022 – The Cayman Islands Regiment organised a collaborative multi-agency training with other emergency service partner agencies to undergo an internationally accredited emergency response driving (ERD) instructors’ course delivered by Emergency Response Driver Training Ltd (ERDT) UK.

Joining the Regiment were other partner agencies such as Cayman Islands Fire Service (CIFS), Hazard Management Cayman Islands (HMCI), Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) and Emergency Management Services (EMS).

“The ERDT instructors training provides a great opportunity for the emergency services to support the Government mission of building better resilience, inter-operability and professional service levels for Cayman. By having instructors’ trained to the same standard of excellence across multiple agencies, we can deliver this training to all of our drivers operating under emergency conditions,” noted Cayman Islands Regiment Lieutenant Colonel Simon Watson.

ERDT has delivered training to over 90 emergency services in the UK and Worldwide. The instructors programme is designed for British Crown dependencies, British Overseas Territories, and International Emergency Services. It provides the skills, knowledge and understanding required to deliver initial or re-certification emergency response driver training and assessments.

The course offered by the ERD instructors programme is SFJ Awards internationally accredited. SFJ Awards are an internationally recognised and regulated awarding organisation and custom certification services provider, trusted and approved as England’s leading fire and rescue end-point assessment organisation.

Speaking to the importance and upskill impact of the training for Cayman Islands Emergency Service, Designate Chief Fire Officer Dwight ‘Randy’ Rankin noted: “Public Safety is paramount when responding to any emergency incident. This course provides upskills and recertification training for all emergency service responders with industry techniques and skills that are critical to safeguard and ensure public safety when responding to an emergency incident.”
