Further to our media release earlier this morning RCIPS can confirm that it has launched an official investigation into the circumstances surrounding incident. The vessel is a white Boston Whaler powered by two Mercury outboard engines and appears to be approximately 27 feet in length. An extensive search by sea and air of the area where the boat was discovered for persons in the water proved negative. No distress calls to 911 or to Port Authority where received by the vessel this morning. The Fire Department also dispatched its officers to assist with the investigation.
The RCIPS can confirm that we received a report this morning of a vessel stolen and fitting the same description. The matter is under investigation by the West Bay CID.
